Privacy Policy

Last updated: 4 May 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Jot ("we", "us", "our") handles personal information in connection with the Jot macOS application (the "Software") and the website at jotapp.pro (the "Site"). Jot is the data controller.

The short version. Voice and transcription happen entirely on your Mac. We do not record, upload, or have access to your audio or transcribed text. We collect only what is strictly needed to sell, license, support, and update the Software.

1. What the Software does — and doesn't — collect

Jot processes your microphone audio locally on your device using a Whisper model running on Apple Silicon. Audio and transcribed text never leave your Mac. They are not sent to us, to Apple, to OpenAI, or to any third party.

The Software contacts our servers only for two purposes:

2. Information we collect when you buy or contact us

If you purchase Jot, our merchant of record Paddle (Paddle.com Market Limited and its affiliates) collects the personal and payment information needed to process the transaction (name, billing address, email, payment method, country, VAT/tax ID where applicable). Paddle shares with us a limited subset — typically your name, email, country, and order details — so we can issue a license, provide support, and meet our tax-reporting obligations. Paddle's handling of your data is described in the Paddle Privacy Notice.

If you email us at info@jotapp.pro, we receive the contents of your message and any information you choose to include.

3. Website analytics and cookies

The Site uses minimal, privacy-respecting server logs (IP, user-agent, requested URL, timestamp) for security and aggregate traffic measurement. We do not set advertising cookies and do not sell or share your browsing data.

4. How we use your information

We do not use your personal information for advertising and we do not sell it.

5. Legal bases (GDPR / UK GDPR)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on: contract (to provide the Software and process your order), legal obligation (tax, accounting), and legitimate interest (security, fraud prevention, product improvement).

6. Sharing

We share personal information only with: Paddle (merchant of record and payment processor), our hosting provider (for serving the Site, updates, and license endpoints), and authorities when required by law. We do not share data with advertisers.

7. Retention

We retain order and license records for as long as required by tax law (typically 7–10 years) and support correspondence for up to 3 years. Server logs are kept for up to 90 days.

8. International transfers

Our servers and processors may be located outside your country, including in the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area. Where required, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards.

9. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, port, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any right, email info@jotapp.pro. EU/UK residents may also lodge a complaint with their local data-protection authority.

10. Children

Jot is not directed to children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

11. Changes

If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, for significant changes, notify customers by email.

12. Contact
